Craggy Range Les Beaux Cailloux 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“The 2009 'Les Beaux Cailloux' Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay displays lovely ripe peach and nectarine aromas with some lemon curd, cream and toasty cedar and a subtle touch of meal. Crisp, taut and concentrated with a medium body, it gives a satiny texture in the mouth and a long layered finish. Drinking now, it should cellar through 2015.”

Craggy Range Aroha 2009, Te Muna Road Vineyard

“Coming from 2 parcels off the Te Muna vineyard, the 2009 'Aroha' Pinot Noir has a medium ruby-purple color and slightly mute red berry aromas with some forest floor and tree bark. Concentrated and tight-knit in the medium-full bodied mouth, it offers a medium-firm level of very fine tannins, lively acidity and a long earthy finish. Approachable now, it should drink best 2012 to 2016+.”

Craggy Range Le Sol 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels 'Le Sol' Syrah gives ripe blackberry, blueberry and Chinese five spice aromas with pinches of black pepper and anise. Medium-full bodied, ripe and richly fruited on the palate it’s got a solid backbone of firm grainy tannins and crisp acid, finishing long. Approachable now, it should drink best 2012 through 2017+.”

Craggy Range The Quarry 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels 'The Quarry' displays a deep garnet-purple color and plumy, blueberry and Indian spice notes on the nose with a whiff of damp loam. Medium-full and densely packed with expressive fruit, it’s well supported by firm chewy tannins and crisp acid with a long finish. Drinking now, it should keep to 2017+.”

Craggy Range Sophia 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“Very deep garnet-purple, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels Sophia is blended of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The nose is very youthful and a little closed, giving notes of ripe plums, mulberries and crushed blackberries over cloves, pencil shavings, cedar, mace and coffee beans with a hint of dark chocolate. Medium-full bodied, the tight-knit palate gives balanced, medium-high acid, firm grainy tannins and lots of berry and spice layers, finishing long. Consider drinking it 2013 to 2022+.”

Craggy Range Pinot Noir 2009, Te Muna Road Vineyard

“Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2009 Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir has very pretty ripe cherry, red currant and violet aromas with a hint of underbrush. Medium-full bodied, it offers good concentration, refreshing acid and a medium level of silky tannins, finishing long and berry laced. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2015.”

Craggy Range Pinot Noir 2009, Calvert Vineyard

“Medium-deep ruby-purple colored, the 2009 Calvert Vineyard Pinot Noir has slightly minty black cherry and pomegranate aromas with touches of chocolate and cinnamon. Crisp, rich and full in the mouth with a medium level of chewy tannins, it finishes long with lingering notes of cinnamon toast. Drink it now through 2015.”

Craggy Range Syrah 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“Aged in French oak barriques, 31% new, for 15 months, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels Syrah casts a deep garnet-purple color and pronounced black cherry, blackberry and black plum aromas with an edge of pepper and baking spices. Crisp, medium bodied and well supported with firm, chewy tannins, it offers just enough fruit in the mouth marked by refreshing acid and finishing long. Drinking now, it should cellar through 2016.”

Craggy Range Te Kahu 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“The second wine of Sophia, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels 'Te Kahu' is a blend of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec. It was aged for 15 months in French barriques, 22% new, and gives notes of warm plums and blackberries with some dried fruits, tree bark and spice box hints. Tight-knit, crisp and with a firm level of chewy tannins on the medium-full bodied palate, it offers just enough flesh and a long finish. Approachable now, it should cellar through 2016.”

Craggy Range Merlot 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

“Blended of 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels Merlot was aged for 14 months in French barriques, 35% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it offers aromas of warm plums and blueberries with some spice cake, figs and kirsch in the background. Medium-full bodied and generously fruited in the mouth, it presents firm grainy tannins, invigorating acid and a long finish. Drink this one now to 2016.”

“The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc gives intense notes of apple slices, ripe grapefruit, fresh nectarines and passion fruit with just a hint of pea pods. Medium bodied, crisp and clean in the mouth, it has very good concentration, a pleasant suggestion of creaminess to the texture and a long finish. Drink it now through 2013.”

Greenhough Apple Valley Riesling 2010

“The 2010 Apple Valley Riesling offers notes of peach and orange blossom over fresh grapefruit and flint. The light bodied palate presents a medium style in terms of sweetness (35 grams per liter of residual sugar) with lively acidity and a very good concentration of vibrant citrus flavors, finishing long and chalky. Drink this one now to 2016+.”

“The 2009 Chardonnay gives notes of apple crumble, spiced pear and honeydew melon with nuances of cashews and oatmeal. Full bodied and concentrated on the palate, it presents an alluring richness and satiny texture that are nicely offset by refreshing acidity. The finish is long with lingering apple, stone fruit and honeyed toast notes. Delicious now, it should cellar to 2015+.”

“The 2009 Estate Chardonnay gives intense notes of ripe apricots, guava, green mango and honey coated nuts with nuances of lightly browned toast and white blossoms. Medium bodied with a silken texture, it gives great concentration, crisp acidity and a long toasty finish. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2016+.”

Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2009

“The 2009 Hunting Hill Chardonnay is a little youthfully mute, giving delicate lime zest, chalk dust and pink grapefruit aromas over toasted almonds, meal and buttered scones. The palate has an elegant medium body yet packs in wonderfully concentrated toast, meal and citrus flavors with racy acidity, a satiny texture and a very long finish. I love it now, though it will benefit from another 6-12 months in bottle, drinking best 2013 to 2019+.”

Kumeu River Coddington Chardonnay 2009

“The 2009 Coddington Chardonnay displays expressive notes of pineapple, pink guava, peach kernels and warmed pear slices with hints of cashews, marmite on toast and oyster shells. Medium bodied and with a pleasant touch of viscosity, it gives great concentration, lively acidity and a long savory finish. Approachable now, it should drink to 2017+.”

“The 2009 Mate’s Vineyard Chardonnay has a beautifully expressive and complex nose already, with notes of ripe apples, white peaches, butterscotch and pineapple over savory undertones of croissant, crushed nuts and yeast extract plus a whiff of struck match and wet pebbles. Medium bodied with a beautiful satiny quality to the texture, the fruit remains a bit tight though very concentrated with crisp acid to enliven and a long layered finish. Consider drinking it 2013 to 2019+.”

Millton Opou Vineyard Chardonnay 2009

“Produced from whole bunch pressed grapes naturally fermented in small oak barrels, less than 20% new, the 2009 Opou Chardonnay presents aromas of fresh peaches, warm apple slices and under-ripe pineapple with nuances of toast, cashews and preserved ginger. Medium bodied and very nicely balanced in the mouth, it offers layers of concentrated stone fruit and savory flavors, finishing long. Delicious now, it should cellar to 2015+.”

Clos de Ste. Anne Chardonnay 2009

“Whole bunch pressed directly to barriques and aged on lees for over 10 months, the 2009 Clos de Ste. Anne Chardonnay gives pronounced notes of meal, toasted almonds and apple tart over hints of pears, peach blossoms, coriander seed and lemon curd. The palate exudes opulence and spiced apple flavors with toasty/nutty layers while maintaining an elegant medium body marked by refreshing acidity. The finish is long and savory. Approachable now, it should drink best 2012-2016+.”

Clos de Ste. Anne Pinot Noir 2009

“Fermented with native yeasts in small wooden vats and aged in special air-dried barriques for 11 months, the 2009 Clos de Ste. Anne Pinot Noir gives fragrant aromas of warm cherries and raspberry preserves over violets, lavender, dried leaves and cinnamon stick. Full bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, it has a nicely balanced structure of medium-high acid and a medium level of silky tannins, finishing long and spicy. Delicious now, it should cellar to 2016+.”

“The 2010 Pinot Gris presents appealing pear tart and warm apple aromas over hints of butterscotch, yeast and oyster shells. Medium bodied and fairly dry, it has a wonderfully creamy texture with medium acidity and a long poached pear finish. Drink this one now through 2013.”

“Ruby-purple in color, the 2010 Pinot Noir offers earthy aromas of moss covered bark, underbrush and beets over a core of warm black cherries and lavender. Medium bodied, it is generously fruited in the mouth with a medium level of grainy tannins and crisp acidity, finishing long. Delicious now, it should keep to 2016+.”

“Produced in tiny quantities of just 100 dozen 750ml and 225 magnums, the 2010 Bendigo Estate Pinot Noir has a deep ruby-purple color and notes of crushed raspberries, red cherries and red currants over violets, dried Mediterranean herbs and black pepper. Medium bodied, it has a good amount of savory / earthy flavors supported by a medium level of chewy tannins and crisp acidity, finishing long. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2016+.”

“Deep garnet colored with a tinge of purple in the rim, the 2008 La Collina Syrah offers intense notes of warm plums, blackberry preserves and black pepper over hints of anise, dried Provence herbs and black olives. Full bodied and generously fruited in the mouth, the ripe blackberry flavors are nicely supported by firm, rounded tannins and crisp acidity, finishing long and peppery.
