New Zealand was well represented in the recent Winestate 'Wine of the Year' special awards feature. Our own wines came away with some fabulous results, with Craggy Range's Le Sol winning Wine of the Year and the Shiraz/Syrah of the year, and Bilancia's La Collina Syrah a finalist in the Shiraz/Syrah of the year category.
Tinpot Hut Sauvignon Blanc also received a promising review in the Varietal Tastings and was awarded 4 stars.

WINESTATE WINE OF THE YEAR & SHIRAZ/SYRAH OF THE YEAR - WINNER

Craggy Range Le Sol 2009, Gimblett Gravels Vineyard

"An opaque black core with a dark garnet rim. Redolent with black cherry, blueberry, melted liquorice, wild thyme and of course, black pepper. This is intensely flavoured with layers of fine, ripe tannin. The flavours just go on and on. A remarkable vintage."

SHIRAZ/SYRAH OF THE YEAR - FINALIST

Bilancia La Collina Syrah 2008, Hawke's Bay

“Ruby red with an aroma of blackberries and spice. The palate shows distinctive pepper and spice combined with gentle floral characters. The wine is about tecture and structure, and a sense of place.”

VARIETAL TASTING - SAUVIGNON BLANC & BLENDS

Tinpot Hut Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough

“A well-made wine smelling of cut grass, gooseberries and snow peas, and a simple range of varietal flavours  with delicate floral notes.”
