La Vieille Ferme
France - Rhone ValleyLa Vieille Ferme – The Old Farm is the largest estate of the Perrin & Fils family. It is situated in the region of Cote du Ventoux, which is actually made up of 4 individual vineyards from the hilly southern districts. La Vieille Ferme uses the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at Beaucastel, vinifying the wines in similar fashion.
When originally launched in the United States in 1970 there was an outpouring of critical acclaim from wine writers such as Robert Parker and Craig Clairborne. Parker was quoted as saying La Vieille Ferme was “one of the world’s greatest wine values”.
Some years on Robert Parker Jr is still saying the same thing. In the 28th February 2007 issue of his Wine Advocate Parker wrote…
“Because of the price people sometimes forget how tasty the cuvees from La Vieille Ferme are. They are wines that never see any wood and are meant to be drunk in their youthful exuberance youthfulness…”
For the 2011 vintage he wrote…
“The wine exhibits a deep colour and loads of berry fruit as well as hints of Provencal herbs and spice. This is another delicious, fruit-forward wine that the world needs and gets from the Perrins…” 86/100
