Backstage Wines

Backstage was born out of frustration. Tired of hearing requests from New Zealand trade partners for a wine of a certain style, origin and price point and unable to deliver on that request. The answer – go out and source the fruit that will give you the characters you are looking for and commission a talented winemaker to make that wine for you. So that’s what we’ve done.

Backstage Wines is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vintners with the company’s own Ric Little overseeing all facets of fruit selection, winemaking and packaging. The wines produced by Backstage are designed to complement the existing range of wines we represent in our portfolio. If we cannot source a wine in the style, price point and region of origin from the wineries we currently represent, only then will we look to Backstage producing that wine. They are unashamedly our interpretation of what we are hearing the New Zealand licensed trade are wanting for their customers.

Long term relationships are important to the continuity of style we are looking for, so we have sourced fruit where we can have a say in the way it is grown and handled in the winery. Fruit selection is meticulous and winemaking is done in such a way as to preserve the sense of place.

We strongly believe these wines are best left to tell their own story and will speak very eloquently for themselves and the people behind them can remain backstage.
